Bespoke Website Development Case Study
The Hospital Day Nursery: A Website Full of Colour and Character
A nursery website should feel welcoming from the moment a parent arrives. For The Hospital Day Nursery in Sidcup, Kent, Probeck developed a colourful, custom-coded website designed to reflect the friendly and playful nature of an early years environment.
Alongside the website’s bold visual design, Probeck also developed a bespoke feedback platform, demonstrating how a relatively straightforward website can include custom functionality built around the customer’s requirements.

- A visual identity suited to an early years setting
- Custom-coded website
- Developed around the nursery’s requirements
- Bespoke feedback
- Focused custom functionality within the website

- A clear experience across different screen sizes
The Design Challenge
A Website That Feels Like a Nursery
Not every business should have a website that looks corporate.
The Hospital Day Nursery is an independent nursery within the grounds of Queen Mary’s Hospital in Sidcup. It provides childcare for children aged from three months to five years and describes its aim as creating a happy, welcoming and secure environment where children can learn and develop.
The website needed to reflect that personality. Bold colours and playful visual elements were a more appropriate direction than a restrained corporate palette.
Personality still had to work alongside usability. Colour helps make the experience distinctive, while clear contrast, readable text and straightforward navigation keep information practical for parents and carers.

The Website
Bringing Colour and Character to the Design
Probeck developed a responsive, custom-coded website around the nursery’s content and visual identity.
The site introduces the nursery, its childcare services, team and environment. It also gives parents and carers routes to practical information, including policies, funding, Ofsted information, a waiting list and contact details.
Playful patterns, rounded shapes and bold colour provide the creative character. Responsive website development allows the layouts and navigation to adapt for smaller screens rather than treating the desktop design as a fixed canvas.
The result aims to feel appropriate for an early years audience without sacrificing clarity.

The Bespoke Feedback Platform
Adding Functionality Around the Nursery’s Needs
Alongside the main website, Probeck developed a dedicated parent feedback interface rather than relying on a generic contact form.
The verified public workflow is deliberately focused. It asks the contributor for a parent name and comment, validates that both have been provided and submits the information without requiring the whole page to reload.
The page separately loads feedback for display and explains that a submitted comment will not appear instantly. No wider authentication, ratings, categorisation, reporting or notification features are claimed.
This is a practical example of how custom website functionality can support a specific requirement without turning a straightforward website into an unnecessarily complex application.

The Development Approach
Custom Development Without Unnecessary Complexity
Bespoke website development does not always mean building a large application.
The custom-coded approach gave Probeck control over the nursery website design and the focused feedback functionality it needed, without introducing unrelated features.
That does not make custom code inherently better than WordPress or another platform. It means the development approach suited this project’s creative and functional requirements.
Creative direction
Bold colour, playful illustration and rounded forms match the early years context.
Custom-coded build
The presentation and behaviour follow the agreed website requirements.
Responsive layouts
Navigation, imagery and content adapt across different screen sizes.
Focused functionality
The feedback platform adds the specific interaction the nursery required.
The Result
A Website That Reflects the Nursery’s Personality
The completed website gives The Hospital Day Nursery a colourful online presence that reflects its early years environment.
The bold visual design creates a welcoming first impression, while the responsive pages provide parents and carers with nursery and practical information.
The bespoke feedback platform adds useful functionality tailored to the nursery’s requirements.
For Probeck, the project demonstrates that good website development is not about creating the most complicated solution. It is about understanding the customer, choosing an appropriate creative direction and developing the functionality needed to make the website useful.
