Mobile App Development Case Study
Score My Golf: From Paper Scorecards to Live Leaderboards
Golf competitions have traditionally relied on paper scorecards, with results often unavailable until everyone has finished their round and the scores have been collected.
Probeck developed the complete Score My Golf platform, including its website and iOS and Android apps. Golfers can record scores as they play, automatically feeding the results into a live leaderboard that can be viewed from anywhere.
From organising events and inviting participants to calculating scores and displaying live results, the platform brings the competition together in one connected system.
- Live scoring
- Scores entered during play
- Live leaderboards
- Results updated throughout the event
- Event management
- Organise competitions and participants
- Shareable results
- Follow the competition from anywhere
The Challenge
Golf Doesn't Need to Wait Until the Final Scorecard
Paper scorecards provide a familiar way to record a round, but they limit how quickly the wider competition can be understood.
Each participant records an individual round. In an event with multiple golfers, the overall standings may remain unclear until those scorecards have been collected and processed.
That creates administration for the organiser and leaves participants waiting to discover how their performance compares with the rest of the field. Anyone outside the course may have no practical way to follow the competition at all.
The challenge was to make golf event scoring accessible while keeping score entry straightforward for players. The technology needed to support the competition without distracting from the round itself.

The Solution
A Complete Platform That Connects the Competition
Probeck developed the Score My Golf website, mobile apps and supporting systems as one connected digital platform.
Organisers can create events, manage participants and invite golfers to take part. During the round, participants enter their gross scores through the iOS or Android app.
Those scores are sent to the supporting backend system, where the information is processed and used to update the event leaderboard.
The result is a focused mobile experience for recording a round, connected to the website, event information and calculations required by everyone following the competition.
How It Works
From Event Setup to Live Standings
The application follows the natural sequence of a golf event, connecting each player's score entry with the shared competition.
- 01
Create the Event
An organiser sets up a golf event and manages the participating golfers.
- 02
Invite Participants
Players are invited to take part in the event.
- 03
Record Scores
During the round, golfers record their gross scores using the mobile application.
- 04
Follow the Leaderboard
Scores feed into the live leaderboard as the competition develops.
Live Leaderboards
Everyone Can Follow the Competition, Wherever They Are
As golfers enter scores, the live golf leaderboard updates to reflect the progress of the event.
This gives the competition an audience beyond the people currently playing. Golfers can see how they are performing, organisers can monitor progress and players who finish early can continue following the remaining rounds.
The leaderboard can also be displayed in the clubhouse or shared with friends, family and other interested spectators who are following remotely.
Instead of waiting for the final scorecards to be collected, people can follow the event throughout the day.
Scoring and Calculations
More Than Just Recording Numbers
Score My Golf does more than store the gross score a player enters.
The backend applies golf-specific logic, including handicap-related calculations and Stableford points. In practical terms, this turns the numbers recorded during a round into meaningful competition standings.

Behind the Scenes
A Connected Website, Mobile Apps and Scoring Platform
Score My Golf is supported by a bespoke backend rather than operating as an isolated mobile application.
Probeck developed the public website and the iOS and Android applications. The native iOS application uses SwiftUI, while a PHP-based application and API provide the supporting event, participant, scoring and leaderboard functionality.
When participants record information through an app, the central platform can process it and make the resulting standings available to the different people following the event. This is what turns individual score entry into real-time scoring information for the wider competition.
Building the complete platform brought together website design and development, mobile app development, bespoke application development and the connected-system principles used in automation and integrations.
The Result
Less Administration, More Focus on the Golf
Score My Golf turns much of the traditional paper-based competition scoring process into a connected digital experience.
Players can record scores during their rounds, organisers can follow the progress of their events and spectators can access live results without needing to be physically present.
The live leaderboard makes the competition easier to follow while reducing the need to wait until the end of an event for scorecards to be gathered and processed.
For Probeck, the project demonstrates how bespoke mobile applications can combine a straightforward interaction on the phone with golf-specific calculations, event management and live information behind the scenes.
Have an Idea for an App That Could Change How Something Works?
Score My Golf demonstrates how a mobile application can replace a traditional process with something more connected, accessible and engaging.
Whether you need live information, event management, customer interactions or complex calculations behind the scenes, Probeck can develop mobile applications around the way your business or organisation operates.
